Cambodia | Fishing

Svay Pak, Cambodia is a small fishing community. Bong, a 35-year-old father of 4 rents his old boat to his neighbor to catch fish to sell at the market. His debt increases each month regardless of him paying the amount due. As the debt increases, so do the death threats and demands to pay more. Bong shared with tears in his eyes how he sometimes puts his children to bed with empty stomachs only having rice and fish sauce for dinner. Men like Bong are all too common in these areas, leaving their children at rist to being exploited by traffickers promising to pay off these kinds of debts.

Bong’s children are now safe and receive an education at Agape International Missions (AIM) school, and his wife works at one of their employment centers. This kind of story used to ruin lives, but AIM has shown a new way, a new possibility for children to be spared from experiencing trauma.
